Retipping Services
Recover tool bodies with new carbide heads.
Retipping replaces the worn or damaged carbide tip on a gun drill body with a new carbide head, fully reground to the original geometry specification.
Where resharpening is no longer viable, retipping recovers the full tool life of the steel body without the cost of a new tool.
When to retip
- Tip stock is exhausted and no further resharpening is possible.
- Carbide tip is chipped, cracked, or fractured.
- Tool has been run past the point where resharpening restores geometry.
- Body is in good condition but tip performance is unrecoverable.
What we do: The worn or damaged tip is removed. The body is inspected for straightness, coolant hole integrity, and shank condition. A new carbide tip is brazed, matched to the original geometry specification. The tool is then reground to full geometry, inspected, and returned.
Body assessment: Not all bodies are suitable for retipping. Bodies with straightness deviation, damaged coolant holes, or shank wear beyond tolerance are identified at inspection and the customer is advised before work proceeds.
